This reminds me of my teenage years in Union, MI (100 miles +/- outside of Chicago), where golf carts are a common mode of transportation. There are many carts, a lot of them with not only custom exteriors, but with regulators removed or modified allowing carts to hit speeds in excess of 50 mph!
We used our cart for everything from riding to the store, taking up trash, to hauling skis and water toys back and forth between the different houses. This also led to one of the scariest moments as a father I have ever had. I was taking a small group of kids to play in the woods and upon arriving, I stopped to assess the situation. I didn't like the spot, so I hit the accelerator quickly... not knowing Skylar had stood up in the back! Wham! Pow! WAAAHHHH!!!! She flipped out backwards, landing on her head causing a concussion and her "ability" (its a feature, not a bug) to see bright flashes of light (she described them as being similar to a camera flash) for the next 3 -4 months. She did get her very first MRI though!
I like golf carts; they can be a good alternative short distance transportation option and will probably get one in the next couple of years.
